When Chloe attended her first appointment with Works Better she didn’t have a lot of confidence in herself and her ability to find work.
She was keen to work with children but the only experience she had was a short period of volunteering with the local Brownies and Church playgroup. Chloe wanted to gain more experience on top of that.
In a one to one with her Transitional Support Worker (TSW), the pair looked at her qualifications and employment history to help build her CV it was clear that Chloe needed to update her Maths and English qualifications to help her get to through to the interview stages.
The team introduced her to YH Training where she attended classes over 12 weeks. She was still in touch with her TSW and applying for jobs alongside her course to ensure that she was up to speed on jobs available and didn’t miss the chance to apply for any opportunities.
Chloe successfully achieved her Level 1 English and Maths qualifications. With the new qualifications under her belt, we provided intense job searching sessions with a Recruitment Support Officer who helped her to look to suitable jobs and begin the application process. She became more confident at completing applications and started to get initiations to interviews for childcare vacancies.
After applying for a few vacancies she started to become worried about attending an interview as this was something she didn’t have much experience of. The team helped her with some mock interview support and gave her tips on how to prepare and good questions to ask her potential new employers.
Over time her confidence in interviews grew and she was offered a trial shift as a childcare support worker at a local Out of School Club.
Chloe’s personality and confidence with the children made a positive impression on her employer was offered a permanent position.
Now she is in work Chloe is a different person. Her confidence and self-esteem has improved and she has been in work for 6 months now and enjoys her job and the independence it’s given her.
The team at Works Better continued to provide regular contact with Chloe to ensure things are going well and to provide support if needed.
