Her previous jobs were in production, but as she was couldn’t keep up to the pace of the work she had been ‘let go’. She was hoping to find a cleaning job, but unfortunately, she had no experience in that area other than cleaning her own home. Despite this, it was something she enjoyed, and she was keen to pursue a career in.
After reviewing her CV, Annie’s Transitional Support Worker (TSW) decided that it needed to reflect the skills and experiences of a potential ‘cleaning employee’.
Working together they changed the structure of her CV – adding more details of the softer skills that Annie hadn’t realised would be beneficial to impressing employers and help them understand more about her. Annie and her TSW Rebecca, then started to fill in application forms and search for appropriate jobs online. Annie even gained the skills to master her computer and apply for vacancies from home.
All this hard work paid off and she was soon successful in securing an interview with Neal Brothers for a cleaning position and got the job!
Whilst Annie has been in work the Works Better team has stayed by her side and has supported her to access her wage slips online, find her employee number in the company’s procedures and advised Annie on how to contact her manager when she has problems.
Annie would like a second cleaning job in the evenings as her current job is only 9 hours/week. Even though Annie is working, the team has still been seeing Annie on a weekly basis and helping her apply for suitable vacancies. They have also helped with travel options, the impact on her benefits and ensuring that she is still receiving what she is entitled to until she is working over a certain number of hours.
Annie is really grateful for all the help received and she has made tremendous progress in the three months she was been with Works Better she is certainly a much happier and more confident lady.
