Denise cooks herself a job thanks to Work Experience

Denise felt that she had multiple barriers in returning to work

Denise joined the Works Better in October. Denise felt that she had multiple barriers in returning to work as she was recovering from a long-term health issue, had little income and a lengthy employment gap on her CV.

After receiving the one to one support from her TSW Rebekah and attending some employability courses the team identified that work experience may really help Denise to build her confidence and also strengthen her CV.

Feeling more motivated and positive Denise took the advice on board and brought up the confidence to approach Café 19, based in Wakefield city centre and enquired about any work experience opportunities available. The company was more than happy to offer a work experience placement as a kitchen assistant.

The work experience really helped Denise with her confidence and to get back into a working environment, and enhance her team working skills. She really stood out to the team at Café 19.

Shortly after the Christmas period the staff at café 19 were that impressed with Denise’ rapport with customers and work ethic they offered her permanent part-time employment!

Denise is really grateful for the support from Works Better and is still in regular monthly contact with her Rebekah to ensure she feels fully supported in work.
If you would like support getting back to work the team at works better would be happy to help.
