Sara came to Works Better 15 -25 in March. Her time in High School and College was interrupted due to several moves back and forth between Kirklees and Coventry. She had never worked before and had very little experience to help her get into work.
When Sara came to our team she felt that she was in a position to start looking for either an apprenticeship or work.
At her first appointment, her Key Worker Sagir supported Sara to put in an application for Universal Credit to give herself some independence and financial support while she was looking to find work. Together they also set up an account on the National Apprenticeship Service website to find out more information about apprenticeships and the types of jobs available.
As Sara had no work experience, Sagir recommended that she could look for volunteering or work experience opportunities to help gain some experience and to add to her CV. This would also give her some real expectations of working and help to get her into a routine.
After approaching a few charities that were looking for volunteers Sara now has a weekly placement on a Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, Sara also enrolled on to Level 2 English, Maths and ICT courses, to get the qualifications she never managed to get in high school. She is making great progress and is confident that she will achieve these qualifications in a matter of weeks.
In a one to one session she discussed with Sagir the various apprenticeship vacancies available in the district and attended the Routes Health Care recruitment event in Dewsbury, which took place on the 15th of May.
Sara was invited back for an interview and was successfully forwarded to the next stage which is a DBS and reference check. She is looking forward to starting her training course with Routes Health Care and perusing an apprenticeship within that industry.
Thanks to the support from Works Better 15 – 25 providing, help with Universal Credit, one to one mentoring and careers advice. Sara is now on track gaining her qualifications and has a great chance of securing an apprenticeship in the career she wants.
